TALKS

I've given many talks about crosswords and the Pre-Shortzian Puzzle Project. These have included interviews on National Public Radio's KCUR and KMBZ; a speech at ideacity, a TED-like annual conference in Toronto; talks at the 36th, 37th, and 38th Annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament about New York Times crosswords in the pre-Shortz era; and presentations on crosswords and crossword history at the Newport Beach Public Library, Palos Verdes Peninsula Center Library, The Forum at Rancho San Antonio, and the Kansas City Professional Club.

I was also a guest speaker for a Stanford University Linguistics course and twice taught a course on crosswords to middle and high school students in Stanford University's Splash program, and I've discussed crosswords with students in a Wofford College crossword class and at the Davidson Young Scholars Summit in Reno.  I also co-presented a workshop on crossword construction with New York Times constructor Andrea Carla Michaels at the Silicon Valley Puzzle Fest.
