TALKS

I've given many talks about crosswords and the Pre-Shortzian Puzzle Project. These have included interviews on National Public Radio's KCUR and KMBZ; a speech at ideacity, a TED-like annual conference in Toronto; talks at the 36th, 37th, and 38th Annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament about New York Times crosswords in the pre-Shortz era; and presentations on crosswords and crossword history at the Newport Beach Public Library, Palos Verdes Peninsula Center Library, The Forum at Rancho San Antonio, the Kansas City Professional Club, and the Palo Alto Rotary Club.

I was also a guest speaker for a Stanford University Linguistics course and twice taught a course on crosswords to middle and high school students in Stanford University's Splash program, and I've discussed crosswords with students in a Wofford College crossword class and at the Davidson Young Scholars Summit in Reno.  I also co-presented a workshop on crossword construction with New York Times constructor Andrea Carla Michaels at the Silicon Valley Puzzle Fest.
